Former Ritz-Carlton president Horst Schulze was in town this week checking out Carefree Resort & Villas in the foothills north of Scottsdale.
Schulze, who founded the West Paces Hotel Group with several other former key Ritz executives earlier this year
to create and operate luxury hotels around the world, is taking charge of the 42-year-old, rustic-but-upscale
retreat at 37220 Mule Train Road.

The message was clear when Carefree Resort & Villas treated a group of national meeting planners to a Country-Western show in its Opera House.
The star was Jessi Colter, a pedigreed Outlaw, someone who headlined with "Waylon and Willie and the Boys"
and married Waylon Jennings, the late Outlaw superstar.
Last week Colter, a Phoenix native who lives in nearby Rio Verde Foothills, was the message, personifying everything the Resort wanted to tell the meeting
planners, a group with a deep impact on hotel bookings.
